I think of most things in life as either a Bob Dylan or a Beatles song.
When you are a carpenter making a beautiful chest of drawers, you are not going to use a piece of plywood on the back, even though it faces the wall and nobody will ever see it. You'll know it's there, so you are going to use a beautiful piece of wood on the back. For you to sleep well at night, the aesthetic, has to be carried all the way through.
You have to trust in something- your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.
It's been one of my mantras- focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.
Stay hungry. Stay foolish.
